Research

Established in 1958, the Department of Economics is one of the oldest and most vibrant departments of Christ College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda. With a rich academic legacy spanning more than six decades, the department has been consistently committed to academic excellence, research, and social relevance. Recognized for its strong teaching–learning practices and competitive success, the department has produced university ranks, 1 JRF awardee, 13 UGC NET qualifiers, and 6 admission to Ph.D. qualifiers between 2017-2025, reflecting its sustained record of academic distinction.

The department offers Undergraduate (FYUGP System) and Postgraduate programmes in Economics and was elevated as a Research Centre of the University of Calicut in 2015, enabling M.Phil./Ph.D. research in Economics. The faculty team of five dedicated teachers works towards nurturing competent economists with strong analytical, research, and ethical foundations.With around 225 students, the department has a strong academic culture supported by innovative teaching practices, research orientation, extension activities, and career-focused initiatives.
