Seminar
The department organized a National seminar in the year 2016 in which Arvind Subramanian, Indian economist and the former Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, has delivered a wonderful lecture on “An analysis of Indian Economy” and inspired our students.
2017-2018
Seminar
The department has organized a seminar on “Union Budget 2017-18” and in which Dr. V. K. Vijayakumar, Investment Strategist, Geojit BNP Paribas has given a detailed evaluation of the Budget.
To update students on recent changes in tax policies the department has organized a seminar on 20th July, 2017 on “GST: Impact on Indian Economy” in which Dr. Jose Sebastian, Faculty, Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, Thiruvananthapuram has presented his detailed idea about the topic.
The department has organized a National seminar on Union Budget 2018-19: A Political Document for 2019 on 08. 02.2018. Interactive sessions were handled by Dr. Mani K. P, Professor, Department of Economics, University of Calicut, Dr John Mathai Centre, Aranattukara, Trichur, Dr. V K. Vijayakumar, Investment Strategist, Geojit Paribas Ltd. and Dr. Martin Patrick, Former Faculty, CUSAT.
2018-2019
The Department has also organized a seminar on “Relevance of Gandhian Economics in the 21st Century” on 10th December 2018 in which Sri. K.P. Fabian (IFS, Retired) has given a detailed lecture on the topic.
2019-2020
Workshop
The Department has organised a three days National workshop on “Basic Econometrics” on 27, 28 and 29 September 2019. Dr. N. Vijayamohanan Pillai, Associate Professor, Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Trivandrum was the resource person of the workshop.
Seminar
In the year 2020 we have organised a National seminar on ‘Union Budget 2020-21- an analysis’ on 03-02-2020 in which Dr. Rajesh K, Assistant Professor, School of Management and Entrepreneurship, KUFOS has given a detailed evaluation of the Budget. After the evaluation, students had a fruitful discussion which was chaired by the Head of the Department.

International Webinar
The Department has organised a one-day International Webinar on “Impact of COVID-19 on Global Economy” on 07th August 2020 in association with Indian Economic Association (IEA). A group of eminent speakers which include, Prof V.K. Malhotra, Honorable Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Research (ICSSR), New Delhi & President IEA, Prof. Davinder Kumar Madaan, Professor of Economics & Head School of Social Science, Punjabi University, Punjab & Honorary Secretary of the Indian Economic Association (IEA), Prof. Raj Kishore Panda Formerly Professor & Head, Post-Graduate Dept. of Analytical & Applied Economics, Utkal University & Director, Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies, (ICSSR Institute) Odisha, Bhubaneswar, Dr. N. Rajalakshmi. Independent Director Hindustan Shipyard ltd. Former Director Agro Economic Research Center for Tamilnadu, Kerala, Pondicherry and Lakshadweep. Prof of Economics Madras University and Dr. Doris Padmini Selvaratnam, Associate Professor & Head of Industry-Community Liaison Office Faculty of Economics and Management, University Kebangsaan Malaysia handled the sessions.
Department of Economics has also organised a one-day international webinar on “Economic Development in India: Different Perspectives” on 21st October 2020. Three eminent economists Dr. Thushyanthan Baskaran, Professor, School of Economics, University of Siegen, Germany, Dr. Peter M Raj, Associate Professor, KILA, Thrissur and Dr, S Hari, Assistant Professor, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune have given detailed lectures on India’s economic development.
The Department has organised a one-day international webinar on “New Business Environment- Challenges, Opportunities and Strategies” on 15th September 2020 in which Justin Paul, Professor, University of PR, San Juan, PR, USA., and Dr. Sangeetha K. Prathap, Assistant Professor, School of Management Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, were the main speakers.
National Webinar
The Department always strives to update its students with the latest Economic and political conditions in the country. With this objective, it has organised a one-day National webinar on ‘India and its Neighbourhood in Contemporary Times: Economic and Political Perspectives’ on 28th August 2020 in which Dr. Rajesh K, Assistant Professor, School of Management and Entrepreneurship, KUFOS and Dr. Shaji, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Hyderabad, Telangana have given a detailed idea about the present economics and political aspects of India’s relationship with its neighbours.
The Department of Economics has also organised a one-day National webinar on “Application of Statistical Tools in Social Science Research” on 15th February 2021 in which Dr. S. Iyyampillai, Senior Professor of Economics (Rtd), Bharathidasan University, Trichy has given an informative session on statistical tools in research to students of economics and research scholars.
Observance of Special Days
The Department has organised a talk on ‘Socio-Economic Problems Faced by Women Among Coastal Communities’ on 08th March 2021 (International Women’s Day) in association with MCK foundation, Thrissur. Ms. Vrinda Community Development Officer, has delivered an informative lecture and motivated the students to take part in community development activities.
The Department of Economics has organised a national level E-quiz on international day for the Poverty Eradication on 17th October 2020.
