Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology provides a graduation programme in Psychology and a post-graduation programme in Clinical Psychology. B.Sc. Psychology course was started in 2012, in order to satisfy the needs of students who seek psychology and counselling degree for their professional career due to the increasing demand for professionals in Psychology. B.Sc. Psychology has two batches, the second batch started from 2019. M.Sc. Clinical Psychology course was started in 2015. This course aims to equip students with rigorous practical and theoretical knowledge, as well as to provide them with sound ethical, professional and research skills, to enable them to become effective and competent psychologists. While Psychology is a vast subject in itself, all courses in human physiology also have anatomy and psychological statistics their curriculum. The postgraduate course includes training in certain self-development techniques, counselling skills, project-based field visits, clinical internship in reputed hospitals etc. Theory and practicals go hand in hand for both UG and PG programmes.

The Department has eight faculty members. It has a counselling room, and one laboratory with 55 psychological test materials (which measures intelligence, memory, personality, creativity, attention, cognition etc.). The laboratory also has assessment batteries for learning disability, autism and neurocognitive impairments. The Department has a collection of 250 subject related books.

The Department has a high pass percentage ranging from 89 to 93 for B.Sc. and 100% for M Sc Clinical Psychology. More than 85% of students have gone for higher studies and many of our students have got admission in top Central Universities. Fifteen students have cleared the National Eligibility Test after post-graduation. The Department of Psychology provides a certificate course in “Training Skill Development” and a foundation course in “The Power of Positivity”.
