2016-2017

 

Fr. Francis Kurissery Endowment Lecture on ‘Challenges in Journalism’ was conducted at 10 am in the Seminar hall on 11 June, 2016. The resource person was Mr. Davis Pynadath, News Edtor, Deepika, Thrissur.

Prof C V Fransis Endowment Lecture was organised on 11 June, 2016 at 2 pm in the seminr hall. The resource person , Dr Latha Nair, Associate Professor, St Theresas’ College, Ernakulam delivered a lecture on ‘Developing Speaking skills in English’.

 

 

2017-2018

 

The department organised an “Alumni Lecture Series” in the academic year 2017-2018.


Dr. Sangeetha Janachandran, alumna of the department and founder of “Stories Social” ,  delivered a lecture on Business Prospects in Social Media on 21 Novomber , 2018.  

 

Archana Vasudev, Founder, “Talkative”, delivered a lecture on Media on 16 September, 2017.

 

Smitha Susan Thomas, Assistant Director, Hollywood, delivered a lecture on ‘Recent Trends in Movie Making’ on 11 July, 2017.

 

 

2018-2019

 

LECTURE SERIES

 

The annual Fr. Fransis Kurissery Endowment Lecture was delivered by Dr. Hany Babu M. T., Associate Professor, Delhi University, on ‘Language and Linguistics’.

 

Prof C V Fransis Endowment Lecture on ‘New Media Language’ was delivered by Dr Josephine Joseph, Associate Professor, St. Mary’s College,Thrissur.

 

A talk on “Rendezvous with Poetry” was arranged with Dr. Joicy O.J., Head, Dept. of English, Vimala College, Thrissur as the resource person.

 

First ever Alumni Gathering of the department was held on 28 December 2018 to mark the 20th Anniversary of the inception of Functional English department. The chief guest of the day was cine artist Adhithi Ravi alumna of the department.

  

 

  

 

 

2019-2020

Fr. Fransis Kurissery Endowment Lecture  was organised on 4th December 2019. The resource person was  Mr. Favour Francis, Faculty at Divine Institute of Media Science, Muringoor, actor, and  Creative Director at Oaktree Bandwagon and Yara Communications. He delivered a talk on ‘Branding in Media’.

 

The Department organized a class by Ms. Anagha Jayan ,Sub-Editor, Manorama Online and  alumnus of the department, on ‘Media Studies’ on 24th September.

 

A Two-Day International Conference was organized by the department in association with English Language Teachers’ Interaction Forum (ELTIF) on 24th and 25th January 2020. The conference theme was ‘Language, Literature, and Culture: New Derivations & Directions in Classrooms and Outside’. The International conference was inaugurated by Dr. Rahayu Puji Haryanti, Associate Professor, University of Semarang, Indonesia, and the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Tara Ratnam, noted Teacher Educator & ELT Researcher.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

 

Two-day International Online Conference was organised by the Department of English on English Literature and Language Education: Embracing Change in Covid Times on 19 & 20 June 2020 with 50 research papers and 900 participants from 48 countries.

 

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

 

One- Day International Seminar was organised by the Department of English,  in association with SNM training College, Moothakunnam on ‘ICT in Education during and after Covid 19’.

 

 

INVITED TALK

 

A professional Talk was organised by the department of English Christ College on 08 February 2020 on ‘Technical and Content Writing’. The resource person was Mr Subash Sarath, Software professional.

Under the MoU, an International Virtual Conference titled “Contemporary Trends in World Literatures, Language Studies and Cultures” was conducted on 29-30th September 2021. 600 participants joined in the two-day international conference with 257 paper presentations on various topics. Dr. K. J. Varghese, Associate Professor, Dept. of English, Christ College (Autonomous) also conducted a one-day workshop on writing quality research papers for 281 participants at BSSS.

Under the MoU, a cultural exchange program was agreed between Universitas PGRI Ronggolawe, Indonesia and Christ College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda whereby the international students were given permission for credit transfer from Christ College. Under this they were assigned various subjects offered by Christ College for a semester and the corresponding grades from the papers are to be counted under the credits in their academic programs.

Under the MoU, number of activities have been conducted, related to creative writing, conduct of workshops, seminars and symposiums. Two symposiums were conducted till date, one focusing on Creative Writing and the other on Entrepreneurship. An anthology on Travel Writing titled Sonder was published under the collaboration. An international Creative Writing Symposium, first of its kind in Christ College, Irinjalakuda was organised by the Department of English on 7 July 2021. The theme of the symposium was introduced by renowned academician Dr. Abdul Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Five renowned academicians from around the world spoke on various aspects of creative writing. There were more than 400 participants from different parts of the world.  The symposium  ended with an open invitation to publish the creative ventures of the participants in the book to be published by the organizers in association with Pachyderm Tales.
