2020-2021

One day practical training program on making of Soaps and detergents was organized on 20/02/2021 by Department of Chemistry in association with Vigyjan Sagar Science and Technology Park Ramavarmapuram Thrissur.

First year PG students of Chemistry attended 2-day training Programme on Polymer Processing Techniques and Quality Control in CIPET: IPT Kochi and also complete their industrial visit in the same institution.

2021-2022

RESEARCH ORIENTATION CLUB – INSPIRE

1. The Inauguration of the Research Orientation Club: INSPIRE was done by the Principal Rev. Dr. Jolly Andrews C M I at 3.00 PM on 26^th July, 2021 through Google meet. Chief Guest of the day was Dr. Resmi P, Post-Doctoral Fellow of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies.
2. A Reseach Paper Review was presented by Abhiramy Sekharan, M. Sc. Chemistry SF student on the topic:” Characteristic of Indoor and Personal Exposure to Particulate Organic compounds emitted from Domestic Solid Fuel combustion in Rural Areas of Northwest China”.
3. The Inauguration of Second Lecture Series of the Research Orientation Club: INSPIRE was done by Dr. Vivekanandhan, Coordinator of Self Finance Departments of Christ college, Irinjalakuda at 11:00 AM on 25th September, 2021 through Google meet. Chief Guest of the day was Mr. Sreejith S, Research Scholar – CSIR – NCL.

QUIZ CLUB “EXCITED”

1. The quiz club's first quiz competition was conducted on 26/06/2021, Saturday at 5:00 pm, through Google platform on the topic Periodic table and its trends.
2. The quiz competition was conducted on 27/07/2021 3:00 pm, through Google platform on the topic Atomic Structure.
3. As part of Hiroshima-Nagasaki Remembrance Day an Interdepartmental quiz competition “SADAKO CRANES” was conducted by the quiz club on the topic “Hiroshima-Nagasaki atomic bombing” through Google platform on 06/08/2021
4. An intercollegate online powerpoint presentation competition “Hibakusha” was also conducted on the same dayon the topic “Nuclear disasters- An overview” on 06/08/2021
5. The quiz competition was conducted on 30/09/2021 at 10am, through Google platform on the topic “Fun facts in chemistry”.

Other Activities

STEP ‘Science talent enhancement program’ as a part of extension activity department conducted an exciting chemistry exhibition for School students on 27/11/2021

Department is providing a certificate course for PG students. ‘Certificate course on Basic Chemistry Software’s’. Resource person Dr. Vijisha K Rajan, Assistant professor, Department of Nanoscience, Calicut university.

Alumni lecture series on the topic “Nanostructured materials for biomedical and catalytic applications” on 13/10/2021 Chief Guest of the day was Dr. Nandanan Erathodiyil Principal scientist, Nano biolab, Singapore.

Webinar

The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry (Self-financing), Christ College (Autonomous) Irinjalakuda (Autonomous), Thrissur has organized a lecture series on 'Recent advances in materials science' on 26/08/22 (Friday) between 10.00 am to 11.30 am, through the google meet platform: https://meet.google.com/oiw-bdbp-syz. As part of this, the first talk on the series was handled by Dr. Tania Francis, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, St. Josephs College (Autonomous) Devagiri, Calicut on the topic: ‘Green composites for biomedical applications’.

The program was compered by Ms. Kavya Manoj, third sem MSc Chemistry (SF) student, The program started with silent prayer. Ms. Greeni K I, Program Coordinator Department of Chemistry (self) welcomed everyone. Dr. Vivekanandan P, coordinator of self financing course delivered the presidential address and officially inaugurated the function. Ms. Sumayya, First Sem M. Sc. Chemistry SF student introduced the Chief Guest, Dr.Tania Francis.

Dr.Tania Francis started the session by a brief description of plastic and later explained various issues that arises in present scenario. Replacement of plastic by biodegradable alternatives such as biopolymers, biocomposites, HDPE, LDPE, biofillers was of prior important throughout the session. Utilization of areca nut leaf sheath fibres for extraction of cellulose whiskers and chitosan preparation were explained. A brief note on career and research in this field were also discussed.

Ms. Meril Shelly, Coordinator, Research Orientation Club conveyed the vote of thanks. The session was truly informative to the students.

Industrial Visit

The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry (Self-financing), Christ College (Autonomous) Irinjalakuda (Autonomous), Thrissur has arranged an industrial visit to Vajra Rubber Products (P) Limited, Konathukunnu, Thrissur, Kerala on 30/08/22 (Tuesday). The Industrial Visit was conducted on behalf of the ability enhancement course.

11 students and 2 teachers (Ms. Greeni K I and Ms. Meril Shelly) visited the industry. The theoretical aspects, formulations of rubber products were explained by Mr. Rajesh Kumar and the lab-in-charge of each department. The students were much aware about the composite processing techniques, instrumentations, workshops and internship provided by the institute. The program was helpful to the students.
