2016-2017

 

PLAY THERAPY WORKSHOP

 

The ‘Play Therapy’ was organized by the Department of Psychology on 29th October 2016. The resource person was Dr. Sherin P. Antony (Consultant Psychologist), from Bengaluru. Twenty-two students participated in the programme. Play therapy can be practiced by a variety of licensed mental health professionals, like psychologists and psychiatrists. It is also practiced by behavioral and occupational therapists, physical therapists and social workers. It is a therapy that specifically developed for children based on their play behavior.

 

 

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY WORKSHOP

 

CBT therapy was a two-day programme, organized by the Department of Psychology on 26th and 27th September 2017. The resource person was Mr. Mohammad Abeer. During the session, core beliefs, negative thoughts and how to change the negative thoughts were discussed. The students were trained how to fill the CBT Scoring Sheet. The workshop was more focused on practical sessions with theoretical background.

Flood related programmes (NALLA MANASINAY NALLA MANASSODE)

 

Faculties and students of department has conducted many awareness classes, counselling sessions and programmes with the intention of helping peoples who are affected with the flood in 2018. The whole series of programmes were titled as “nalla manasinayi nalla manassode” and the whole department actively participated in the programme.

  • Adopted Padiyoor panchayath to provide any psychological service related with flood.
  • House visit to know ground reality of the flood
  • Provided individual and group counselling, awareness programmes for flood affected students at HDP SS Padiyoor Thrissur

  • Provided individual and group counselling for flood affected students at St. Aloysius HSS Elthuruth, Thrissur

2018-2019

 

Clinical assessment

 

Final year UG and PG students (2016- 2019 batch) visited Pratheeksha bhavan, Irinjalakuda and did assessment of children with various learning disabilities under the guidance of clinical psychologist and a faculty member from the department. It was a two-day programme and helped the students to get an awareness about the different types of learning disabilities and assessments.

 

A seminar on “neuropsychological assessment”

 

A regional seminar on the topic ‘neuropsychological assessment’ was organized by Department of Psychology on 03 march 2019. The resource person was Dr.Abraham Bose (Clinical psychologist, banglore). Through this seminar the speaker tried to give awareness about different neuropsychological assessment techniques.

 

Quiz

 

A Quiz Competition was organized by, department of psychology, Christ College, irinjalakuda on 29 August 2019. It was a 3-stage competition which covered the all areas of psychology. There was a total of 8 teams. Every team had 2 members who were from different classes of psychology and social work department.

 

 

Finishing school programme

 

A finishing school aimed at sharpening the skills for higher opportunities. Orientation classes and brain storming sessions for final year UG and PG students are conducted to know and improve their personal, academic and professional skills. Classes were given by the faculties of department.

 

 

One day workshop

 

The ‘One day workshop on laughter therapy and life skill training’ was organized by the Post Graduate Department of Psychology on 3rd February 2019. The resource persons were Mr. Jude S. (Consultant Psychologist at Stenkv Child Development Centre, Trivandrum) and Mrs. Parvathy S. (Counselling Psychologist at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycadu). It is a modern exercise involving prolonged voluntary laughter, and it is usually done in groups. This helped to raise the awareness on mental health among the students of the College.

 

  

 

2019-2020

 

Jacobson Progressive Muscular Relaxation (JPMR)

 

One-day training program on Jacobson Progressive Muscular Relaxation (JPMR) session was conducted on 28th October 2019, at 10 am, organized by the Department of Psychology and Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC). JPMR session is known for relaxation benefits, and the session was engaged by Ms. Durga K.S., Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology. Follow-up session was also planned for students, who seek help.

 

 

  

 

2020-2021

 

Community extension work on tribal community in Attappadi

 

The 1st PG students of Msc Clinical Psychology from Christ college Irinjalakuda went to Attapadi on 27 march 2021 for the purpose of collecting data related to community extension work from Attappadi tribal community. The data was to be for community extension work which is intended to identify and study the changes and deficits in cognition among tribal populations in Attapadi.

 

  

 

A Seminar On “Psychology Behind Cyber Perpetrators

 

A seminar on the topic ‘psychology behind cyber perpetrators’ was organized by the Post Graduate   of Psychology on 10 February 2021. The resource person was Dr.Febin Baby(Criminologist and head of the department of St. Thomas college ,Trissur). Through this seminar the speaker tried to give awareness about different hidden risks of using social media and internet.

 

  

 

Webinar on “Gate keeper training”

 

A regional webinar on the topic ‘gate keeper training’ was organized by Department of Psychology on 18 September 2020. The resource person was Liya Ajayan (Clinical psychologist, SRM, Calicut). Through this seminar the speaker tried to give awareness about suicidal prevention .she also explained the reasons behind the higher rates of suicides in current society.

 

 

International  Webinar

 

An international webinar on the topic ‘The power of vulnerability, mindfulness and self-compassion”’ was organized by Department of Psychology on 4 September 2020. The resource person was Rev.Fr.Santhosh Jose capuchin (Clinical psychologist and research scholar, St.Marys University, San Antonio, Texas). Through this seminar the speaker tried to give awareness about the power of being vulnerable, mindful and self-compassionate to our self and others.

 

 

Yoga Training workshop

 

The Yoga Training was organized by the Post Graduate Department of Psychology from 1st March 2021 to 7th March 2021. This training programme was given for the Post Graduate students of the Department of Psychology. The sessions were handled by Mr. Ratheep T.R. (M.Sc. Psychology; PG Diploma in Yoga) and his wife Mrs. Anjali Ratheep.

 

  

 

Orientation Programme

 

Delivered talk on “what after UG Psychology”

 

Department of Psychology organized a delivered talk on “what after UG Psychology” to the final year B Sc Degree students of Christ College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda on 14th January 2021 at 10.00 am at Psychology lab. The resource person was Dr. Aneesh V Appu, assistant professor, MG College, Trivandrum.  The main content of the talk was to introduce all the available courses and institutions providing the relevant courses that can be done after bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Information about the mode of admission and entrance tests was also given.
