A workshop for Higher Secondary School Teachers on ‘Methodology of Teaching Chemistry’ was conducted by the Research and Post Graduate Dept. of Chemistry on Nov 3,4 and 5, 2010 in Christ college. This workshop brought together the Higher Secondary School Teachers of surrounding arena and helped them to update their knowledge in Spectroscopy, Nanochemistry, Stereochemistry, and Chemistry in everyday life and also helped the participants to develop a methodology to teach chemistry in the Higher Secondary School level.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S. Chandradekharan, Dean of Faculty of Science, IISC, Bangalore on 3-11-10. Fr. Dr. Jose Thekken, the College Principal, welcomed the gathering and Fr. Jose Stephen, the Manager, Presided over the meeting. Dr. K. Chemistry in everyday life and Stereochemistry were dealt by Dr. Mangalam S. Nair, Head, Organic Chemistry Section, NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. S. Suganan from CUSAT spoke elaborately about Spectroscopy.
Paper presentation by Participants were on 5th Nov. There was also an interactive session based on the Topics in Higher Secondary Level Topics towards the end of the workshop. Various experiments were demonstrated to the participants to enhance their knowledge in chemistry.
The Workshop was sponsored by UGC. Around 70 HSS teachers attended the workshop and reaped the benefits of the same. Prof. T. I. Johnson, HOD of Chemistry, was the co-ordinator and Faculty members of chemistry were the committee members, all of them who worked hard to make this workshop a great success.
